Hướng dẫn viết Introduction cho IELTS Writing Task 2

Nhiều bạn vẫn đang gặp khó khăn ở phần Writing Task 2 ngay từ bước đầu là làm thế nào để viết Introduction. Đôi khi, việc này làm lãng phí một thời gian vô ích cho phần quan trọng hơn là body paragraph. Do đó, bạn cần có phương pháp để không phải mất thời gian suy nghĩ nhiều mà vẫn có một đoạn mở bài một cách nhanh chóng và chính xác.

Mục đích của Introduction:

• Giới thiệu chủ đề của bài viết

• Khơi gợi hứng thú của người đọc với chủ đề

• Biểu đạt “kế hoạch” tổng quan của bài viết

Cấu trúc của phần Introduction:

Phần Introduction nên có 2 câu

• Câu 1: General statement - Câu giới thiệu sơ qua Topic chung của đề bài

  • Tức là: diễn đạt lại đề bài theo cách riêng của mình (paraphrase đề bài bằng các từ và cụm từ đồng nghĩa)

• Câu 2: Thesis Statement - Câu trả lời trực tiếp câu hỏi của đề bài

GENERAL STATEMENT

Mục tiêu của General Statement:

• Giới thiệu chủ đề chung của bài viết.

• Đưa các thông tin background về chủ đề đó.

Để đưa ra một nhận xét chung về đối tượng có các cụm từ dẫn nhập thường được sử dụng như:

    Some people believe/think/argue that…

    It is true/inevitable/undeniable that…

    It is sometimes argued that….

Đề bài: In education and employment, some people work harder than others. Why do some people work harder? Is it always a good thing to work hard?

Câu trả lời mẫu: It is true that some people are hard-working and diligent while others prefer not to push themselves, and there could be various reasons for these different attitudes. 

THESIS STATEMENT

• Là câu trả lời trực tiếp câu hỏi của đề bài. 
• Trong dạng Opinion essay, thesis statement là câu mà bạn sẽ bộc lộ quan điểm của mình (là agree hay là disagree)

Bạn cần xác định dạng câu hỏi mà đề bài đưa ra. Có 5 dạng đề của Writing Task 2:

         1. Opinion (Agree or Disagree): Câu Thesis Statement sẽ bộc lộ quan điểm của em, tức là đồng ý hoặc không đồng ý.

         2. Discussion (Discuss both view) and give your opinion: Bộc lộ quan điểm của em là theo quan điểm nào.

         3. Advantages and Disadvantages

         4. Problem and Solution

         5. Two-part Question Causes & effects hoặc causes & solutions

           1. Opinion (Agree or Disagree)

Essay Question: Too much emphasis is placed on going to university for academic study. People should be encouraged to do vocational training, because there is a lack of qualified tradespeople such as electricians or plumbers. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Thesis Statement: It goes without saying that society always needs a skilled workforce to function. Employees of different professions contribute differently to the thriving of the community, and therefore I disagree with the statement that vocational courses should be given any more weight than before.

          2. Discussion (Discuss both view)

Essay Question: Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others, however, think that change is always a good thing. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Thesis Statement: Many people prefer repeating their daily routine while others always look for change as they believe change would bring more benefits. In my opinion, I would agree with the latter point of view.

          3. Advantages and Disadvantages

Essay Question: Some people show their preference to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others, however, think that change is always a good thing. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Thesis Statement: Many people show preference for repeating their daily routine while others always look for change as they believe change would bring more benefits. In my opinion, I would agree with the latter point of view.

           4. Problem and Solution

Essay Question: There is a general increase in anti-social behaviours and lack of respect for others. What are the causes and solutions?

Thesis Statement: The widespread problem of anti-social behaviours and disrespectful attitudes towards others has long been a major topic of concern in society. Some of the major culprits of this problem will be discussed before the most important solutions are drawn.

           5. Two-part Question

Essay Question: Nowadays the way many people interact with each other has changed because of technology. In what ways has technology affected the types of personal relationships? Has this become a positive or negative development?

Thesis Statement: Rapid advances in technology have undoubtedly affected the way we interact in various ways. While some of this change can exert a negative impact on the way we communicate with each other, my view is that overall modern technology typically improves communication in personal relationships.
