Topic: Overpopulation is the world's most serious environmental problem.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Introduction paragraph:

Overpopulation is indeed a growing concern in the developing world, causing many of the planet's environmental problems. Although an increasing population does have a negative impact on the environment to an extent, the greatest problem is in fact caused by the way in which humans choose to live their lives. In the following essay, both these ideas will be discussed.

“indeed” ở đây đóng vai trò bổ nghĩa cho động từ growing đứng phía sau, có tác dụng nhấn mạnh thêm về tầm ảnh hưởng của bùng nổ dân số. Việc dùng thêm tính hay trạng từ đi kèm với động từ sẽ giúp bạn “ghi điểm” trong mắt giám khảo hơn bởi việc sử dụng ngôn ngữ linh động và chọn lọc tốt của thí sinh.

“To an extent”: ở một mức độ nào đó

Ngoài ra, bạn cũng có thể dùng “to some degree”.

Đây là một cụm thường được người bản xứ sử dụng, việc bạn ứng dụng cụm từ này vào Writing Task 2 sẽ khiến bài làm trông tự nhiên và đúng với văn phong Anh -  Mỹ hơn.

Body:

Overpopulation does have a serious impact on the world's environment for several reasons. An increase in population means more pollution, caused by more cars on the road, more factories, more farming and more household chemicals. Pollution is a significant environmental issue and it can have a serious effect on human and animal health.

Overpopulation also means that natural resources are decreasing more rapidly. The modern world is consuming more than it can produce. People are continuously buying more products and building more houses. Fresh water, oil and natural gas are just some of the resources which are in demand.

Thường chúng ta sẽ dùng “rapidly decreasing” hoặc “decreasing rapidly”, việc thêm “more” ở giữa hai từ giúp người đọc cảm nhận đậm hơn tính tiêu cực của câu văn, và cũng giúp cho bài viết của bạn khác biệt hơn so với những thí sinh khác.

“Be in demand”: to be wanted by a lot of people (macmillandictionary)

Trong ngữ cảnh của bài này, “be in demand” có nghĩa là các tài nguyên cơ bản như nước sạch, dầu và khí thiên nhiên lại khan hiếm vì con người khai thác và sử dụng quá mức.

“Be in demand” có thể được để ở giữa câu hoặc cuối câu như trong bài, ngoài ra các bạn cũng có thể thêm các tính từ để làm nổi bật câu văn hơn như “be very much in demand”

Perhaps overpopulation would not be an issue, however, if society changed the way in which it lived. For example, in order to help these environmental problems, people could try to save natural resources by using less water or by consuming fewer products. They could also try to reuse or recycle more. Pollution could also be kept to a minimum if people only bought organic food or tried to use their cars less.

“Keep (something) to a minimum” là một thành ngữ mang nghĩa ngăn một cái gì đó không được sử dụng quá nhiều. 

Biết thêm nhiều thành ngữ nước bạn và ứng dụng chúng vào bài viết task 2 sẽ giúp tăng band điểm gây ấn tượng cho người đọc lắm đấy.

In summary, although overpopulation is a significant problem when considering the environment, it would be less of an issue if people made certain changes to their daily lifestyle.

“Be less of an issue” hoặc “Be less of a problem” cũng là một cụm từ nên dùng trong các dạng bài agree or disagree như thế này để đưa ra cách giải quyết cho vấn đề.
