As well as making money, businesses should have social responsibility . To what extend do you agree or disagree?

“Social responsibility” has seemed to be a pretty unfamiliar concept for enterprises because in their mind, this is none of their business. However, in a highly–competitive market like today, to win and retain customers’ affection, besides providing high-quality products, each company needs to integrate social responsibility into their business mode. In other words, jointly handling social issues with municipal authorities is an ingenious marketing technique which forward-thinking companies should adopt.
The world in which we have lived is incurring serious consequences caused by manufacturing activities of companies. Environmental pollution is a striking example. Many factories, as well as, complexes severely contaminate surroundings due to the fact that they often dump useless and hazardous waste in the process of producing food, beverage and other products. Accordingly, if enterprises turn a blind eye to what they caused, they would be boycotted by the local residents. Therefore, in this case, corporate social responsibility is not an alternative choice, but an imperative obligation.
Besides, as mentioned above, such social movements as charity, anti-corruption, poverty alleviation … are the golden opportunities for business owners to promote their brand reputation in non-commercial ways. Instead of only highlighting unique features of products like newspaper advertorials or TV commercials, these movements show the ways that companies shoulder their responsibility to the community where they are living in. Therefore, although not make immediate profits, this will help firms foster a lasting relationship with buyers and thereby indirectly boosting sales target.
In conclusion, by partaking in social activities, companies will both appeal to socially conscious consumers and make a difference in the world. It is also worth bearing in mind that business owners should be devoted and truthful to earn the public’s trust.
